One of my childhood fancies
Chocolate – is any child’s fancies and favorites. One never grows old to have these delicious things as their dessert. When I was growing up there’s one particular chocolate that is locally made that I like and I always find myself delicately unwrapping the wax paper holding onto it. That particular kind of chocolate is still selling at a low price and a while ago I was with my brother in a “sari-sari store” and there I saw it – “Curly Tops”. It’s more than ten years, I think, that I’ve bought one of these. It made me feel like a kid again and so I bought one box of “24’s” since I’ll be working a little late today, I need some munchies.
The moment I got home, I opened the box of chocolate with a smile. Within a few seconds, my smile began to fade. I picked one piece and I still delicately took out the wax paper and ate the chocolate. The one thing I remember why the chocolate made it special to me when I was a kid was the name.
What’s with the name? Because it used to have those “curl” shape on the top of each piece of chocolate but now it’s gone. I remember it clearly, around seventeen years ago that I would repeatedly ask my mom to buy me a box of curly tops and I will wash the dishes after dinner if she ever did.
Time has change, I guess, people would care less whether it has any curls or not. Also that the factory didn’t think it’d be more profitable if they keep that “tiny” detail since it’s a cheap chocolate. Don’t get me wrong, the taste of the curly tops is still good. I still take the wax paper off as gently as possible as I would have done when I was a kid.
